位於極地的北極生物係統研究基地爆發神秘病毒，造成三人感染、兩人死亡的慘劇。為了查明病毒的成因，防止其他一百多名來自各國的科學家遇險，美國疾病防疫控製中心在軍方的要求下，派出了艾倫·法拉格特（比利·坎貝爾 Billy Campbell 飾）、茱莉亞·沃克（凱拉·紮戈斯基 Kyra Zagorsky 飾）、莎拉·喬丹（喬丹·海耶斯 Jordan Hayes 飾）與多琳·博伊爾（凱瑟琳·勒米厄 Catherine Lemieux 飾）等四名精英飛往北極。三人中的幸存者彼得（尼爾·納皮爾 Neil Napier 飾）是艾倫的哥哥，當年因一樁荒唐事導致弟弟和妻子茱莉亞離婚。一行人雖然受到畑博士（真田廣之 飾）的熱情接待，但基地內似乎隱藏著不可告人的秘密。
